Analysis: Durant missed 55 games last season and needed three surgeries to repair his broken right foot. He last played in a game on Feb. 18 against Dallas. Durant says he's trying not to think about his injury anymore. He says he's trying not to put too much pressure on himself, either.
Sep. 24 8:20 AM PT9:20 AM MT10:20 AM CT11:20 AM ET15:20 GMT23:20 8:20 AM MST10:20 AM EST19:20 UAE17:2011:20 ET10:20 AM CT14:20 - Durant hasn't always seen eye to eye with the media. Now, he'll be a part of it. The Players' Tribune announced Thursday the Oklahoma City Thunder star will join the company as deputy publisher. Editorial content from Durant is expected in the next few weeks.
Analysis: Durant will work closely with founding publisher and former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who started the website for athletes to tell their own stories earlier this year. Jeter said he sought Durant because he has an important voice off the court. Durant said he looks forward to building a place where "athletes can have our say and feel safe that nothing will be distorted."
Sep. 23 9:05 AM PT10:05 AM MT11:05 AM CT12:05 PM ET16:05 GMT0:05 9:05 AM MST11:05 AM EST20:05 UAE18:0512:05 ET11:05 AM CT15:05 - Durant has been cleared to play without restriction after recovering from a foot injury. General manager Sam Presti made the announcement on Wednesday.
Analysis: Durant, the league MVP and scoring champion in 2013-14, played just 27 games last season because of a broken bone in his right foot. He had surgery in October and returned to play in December with some pain. A screw rubbing against another bone was removed this February. Durant averaged 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season. Without his full-time services, the Thunder struggled and missed the playoffs despite Russell Westbrook's excellent play.
July 4 5:28 PM PT6:28 PM MT7:28 PM CT8:28 PM ET0:28 GMT8:28 5:28 PM MST7:28 PM EST4:28 UAE (+1)02:2820:28 ET7:28 PM CT23:28 - Durant said he would be ready for next season and he hasn't thought about the summer of 2016 when he likely will be the biggest domino in a free-agent class that already seems certain to earn incredibly large deals as the league's salary cap skyrockets.
Analysis: Durant is already a four-time NBA scoring champion and doesn't even turn 27 until September. He might not even be in his prime yet. Teams will do whatever they can next summer to get him, much in the same way LeBron James was pursued in 2010 when he wound up signing with the Miami Heat. For now, Durant said, everyone else can focus on that. He is just trying to play. "To be honest, my main thing is getting rid of distractions," Durant said.
